Karen King, MS LMHC
New Mind Therapy, PLLC
“You will begin to see how there is hope in any situation.”
Karen has been a licensed psychotherapist for 17 years and has loved every minute of it. Her background in dance and meditation informs all that she does in her work with clients and clinicians every single day. Karen has worked not only in private practice specializing in children of Narcissistic parents and Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy, but also as a therapist in community mental health, inpatient psychiatric treatment, a children’s group home, a PNW Indian Tribe and as a counselor working with teen homeless in Houston.
She is the founder of Emerge Clinic, currently offering KAP training for clinicians, Consultation for Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapists and WA State Supervision for therapists. Karen has also been a practicing Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Therapist since adding Ketamine treatments to the clinic in 2020. She is a Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) trained MDMA Assisted and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy trainee.
Karen currently supervises Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) therapists both at Emerge Clinic and nationally and also trains clinicians in safely adding Ketamine Assisted Therapy to their practices. She will be offering a five part certification course in 2024 in Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy. Karen is hoping for Emerge Clinic to be part of the first wave of clinics in the PNW to be approved to offer MDMA Assisted Therapy once approved by the FDA for the treatment of PTSD.

Treatment & Philosophical Approach
Karen draws from an eclectic background of professional dance, choreography, meditation, contemplative meditation studies and her training in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. Many clients are struggling with both psychological and spiritual concerns and she is most intrigued by her wok with people who have experienced deep emotional injuries, Spiritually Transformative Experiences and who may also be trying to integrate a challenging or profound Psychedelic experience. Karen supports both clients and clinicians in their journeys to become their kindest and most whole selves, and also challenges them with humor and grace. She will often bring up articles and books she is reading, podcasts, or other tools to discuss and inspire clients and clinicians who want deep understanding and a relationship with Truth.
Karen is deeply inspired to help guide and support clients and professionals who are struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, relationship conflicts, troubling thoughts, or chronic pain. As a particular area of interest, she especially enjoys helping people integrate perplexing Spiritual experiences and Near Death Experiences.
Clients are the expert of themselves, and Karen views herself as simply the expert of the change they want to achieve.
Karen uses the tools of Mindfulness, knowledge of Neurobiology, Attachment Theory, Solution Focused Brief Treatment, Expressive Arts techniques as well as a humanistic, collaborative therapy style to clients move closer to their goals. All of these perspectives hold a piece of the psychological puzzle, and learning a wide variety of tools helps Karen to apply them even more precisely and effectively in her work. Helping clients absorb these skills and see the world open up to them is her passion and motivation for practicing psychotherapy.
Clients will begin to see how there is hope in any difficult situation, as well as learn to create deeper connections and meaning in their everyday lives. Hopefully, Karen’s partnering with clients will help them experience deep perspective shifts that allow them to learn skills and tools that will last a lifetime. Karen helps clients connect to their place of Inner Wisdom and believes the goal is to one day not need a therapist.
